As part of Make it British’s Women in Wool series, our Managing Director Laura Watts sat down with Kate Hills the founder of Make it British to share the story of Marton Mills — who we are, our beginnings, and where the Mill is heading next. As one of the last remaining British wool weaving mills, our heritage stretches back to 1931, when Marton Mills first began producing cloth in Skipton on the street it was named after. Over the decades, we’ve built a reputation for uniform fabrics, supplying schoolwear, military contracts for the Navy and RAF, and even cloth woven for the King’s Coronation. Reliability, consistency and Yorkshire craftsmanship have always been the backbone of our work as a British fabric manufacturing. Today, that heritage sits alongside a renewed commitment to provenance and sustainability. In July 2026, we launched our first fully traceable British Wool Collection, with yarn spun just down the road at Laxtons and finishing completed at our sister company Roberts Dyers in Keighley.
